6343206 Private Edwin Arthur George ‘Eddie’ Coleman was the son of Arthur George Coleman and Amy née Hensman, born on January 1, 1917, in London. In 1921 he was living at 34 Meredeith St, Clerkenwell, London with his parents and siblings.

He joined the armed forces in July 1934 with the 2nd Battalion The Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment and in July 1943 he transferred to the Parachute Regiment.

He was on parachute course 55 at Ramat David in Palestine from 20 July until 01 August 1943.

After successfully completing his parachute course, he was assigned to C Company, 11th Parachute Battalion.

Shortly before his deployment to Arnhem, Eddie married Helen Perkins in Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Mid Wales, where he returned to live following the end of the war.

During the Battle of Arnhem, Eddie was taken prisoner of war and brought to Stalag IVB in Mühlberg, Germany, for registration and got his prisoner number 91675. During his time as prisoner of war he made two escape attempts, but was captured on both occasions.

In April 1945 he was liberated, returned to the UK and on 27th November 1945 was discharged. Following the war, Eddie lived at 3 Turner's Place, Park Street, Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Mid Wales.

Eddie died in 1993 in Coventry, West Midlands.
