Our Mission


Vision Statement:

To honour and commemorate the courage and heroism of those who served in the 11th Parachute Battalion during the Battle of Arnhem and Operation Market Garden in the Second World War, and to ensure that their contribution to the defence of freedom, the strengthening of international cooperation, and the formation of lasting friendships between nations is remembered, understood, and valued by present and future generations for the public benefit.

We will carry out our activities in a supportive, inclusive, and caring manner, treating all individuals and communities with fairness, dignity, and respect, and recognising and valuing the diversity of the communities we serve.
Mission Statement:

    The charitable purposes of REMEMBER THE XIth are for the public benefit:

  1. The advancement of education, in particular by:
    o Promoting knowledge and understanding of the history, role, and significance of the 11th Parachute Battalion as part of the 4th Parachute Brigade during the Second World War;
    o Working in partnership to educate young people and the wider public in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands through digital resources, educational programmes, events, and commemorative activities.
    o Developing partnerships with schools, museums, and educational institutions.

  2. The advancement of heritage, in particular by:
    o Preserving, promoting, and disseminating the history, memory, and legacy of the 11th Parachute Battalion for the public benefit;
    o Establishing, maintaining, and promoting a publicly accessible physical memorial in Melton Mowbray to commemorate the service and sacrifice of members of the 11th Parachute Battalion and their legacy from the Second World War, ensuring their memory and significance is preserved for present and future generations.

  3. In furtherance of the above charitable purposes, to:
    o Develop and maintain an online presence and social media community to engage the public and disseminate educational and historical material;
    o Undertake lawful fundraising activities and apply funds solely in support of our objects;
    o Apply for and obtain registration as a Community Interest Company and operate at all times exclusively for our community interest purposes.
    o Work collaboratively with veterans' associations, heritage organizations, and community groups in the UK and Netherlands.
