Jimmy Stewart was posted with the The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment) to the Middle East where he volunteered for the Special Boat Squadron.
In 1943 he joined the newly formed 11th Parachute Battalion as a Company Sergeant Major.
In April 1944 he was posted to the 21st Independent Parachute Company.
