1472566 Corporal Charles Pitfield Booth was born on 19^th February 1919 in Aughton, Lancashire; son of Thomas Booth and Bertha Kay Booth (née Pitfield).

Charles originally enlisted in 1938 when he joined the Royal Regiment of Artillery. We don't know the date of his transfer but he also served with the 11^th Parachute Battalion and fought at the Battle of Arnhem during Operation Market Garden in September 1944.

He was captured on 25^th September 1944 in Oosterbeek and held at POW Camp Stalag XI B Fallingbostel where he was given POW number 118747.

After the war Charles travelled extensively by ship and his travel surroundings must have been significantly different to those he experienced during the war, always having travelled first class.

• On 22^nd August 1949 he arrived at Liverpool aboard The R.M.V. "Apapa", having travelled from Nigeria where he had been working as an Assistant Accountant. Whilst in the UK he was staying at 20, Shrewsbury Avenue, Liverpool 22.
• On 11^th June 1951 he arrived at Liverpool aboard The "Accra", having travelled from S. Leone where he had been working as an Accountant. Whilst in the UK he was again staying at 20, Shrewsbury Avenue, Liverpool 22.
• On 2^nd March 1955 he arrived at Liverpool aboard The "Accra", having travelled from the G. Coast, where he had been working as an Accountant. Whilst in the UK he was again staying at 20, Shrewsbury Avenue, Liverpool 22.
• On 27^th July 1955 he arrived at Liverpool aboard The R.M.S. "Circassia" having again travelled from The Gold Coast, where he had been working as an Accountant. Whilst in the UK he was again staying at 20, Shrewsbury Avenue, Liverpool.
• On 2^nd December 1955 he departed from Liverpool aboard The R.M.S. "Circassia", bound for Bombay, India to work as an Accountant. His marital status was recorded as Single. Whilst in the UK he had been staying at 20, Shrewsbury Avenue, Liverpool 22.
• On 22^nd October 1956 he arrived at Plymouth after travelling aboard R.M.V. "Apapa", having come from Nigeria, where he had been working as a Coast Auditor. His future place of residence was planned to be West Africa. Whilst in the UK he was again staying at 20, Shrewsbury Avenue, Liverpool 22 where he planned to stay for just 3 months as a visitor.
• On 22^nd January 1959 Charles left the UK aboard The M.V. "Accra" bound for Lagos, Nigeria, to work as an Auditor. Whilst in the UK he had been staying at 20, Shrewsbury Avenue, Liverpool 22. The Out-Going Passenger list records his marital status as single.

We don't have any more information about Charles' life until he died in the winter of 1974 in Lancaster, Lancashire.
