6014622 Lance Corporal John James Beaney
6014622 Lance Corporal John James Beaney was born on 8th June 1921 in Bordon, Hampshire,
the son of John Beaney and Ada Agnes Victoria Beaney (née Balaam). He was baptised at All Saints Church,
Surrey on 25th September 1921.
At the time of the 1921 census in 1921 the newly born John was living with his parents in Alton, Hampshire.
After successfully completing Parachute Course K71, he was posted to the 11th Parachute Battalion and
fought at the Battle of Arnhem during Operation Market Garden in September 1944. After initially being reported missing
on 25/09/1944, he was confirmed as having been captured and taken prisoner of war on 9th December 1944
and having been taken to Stalag 11B, Fallingbstel, Germany. He was given POW No. 117365
John was discharged from the army on 19/8/1946. At the time of being awarded his medal he was living at "Sarnia",
Chappel, Colchester, Essex.
He remained in Chappel and between 2003 and 2006 was living at Elm Cottage, Spring Gardens Road, Chappel, CO6 2DW.
He died on 24th June 2006 in Braintree, Essex.
