253793 Lieutenant William George Fleet

253793 Lieutenant William George Fleet was born on either 18th or 22nd January 1911 at Fareham, Hampshire to parents John Henry Fleet and Alice Beatrice Fleet (née Pack.) He was baptised in the parish of Titchfield on 5th March 1911, which gives his birth date as 18 January, whereas the official record of his ndeath records it as 22 January.

He was commissioned in the Pioneer Corps on December 4, 1942.

William transferred to the Parachute Regiment on September 15, 1943 and followed parachute course No. 93 at Ringway, near Manchester, from 29th November to 13th December 1943.

After his parachute course he was assigned as OC Signals Platoon, Headquarters Company, 11th Parachute Battalion.

At Arnhem William was taken prisoner of war. He was sent to prisoner of war camp Oflag 79 at Braunschweig Germany, where he got his POW number 622.

William died in July 2000 in Chippenham, Wiltshire.
