288765 Lieutenant George Henry Fitzgerald

288765 Lieutenant George Henry Fitzgerald was born on 13 November 1919 and son of Charles Sydney Fitzgerald and Eileen Wilding.

George was commissioned in the Parachute Regiment on August 7, 1943.

After his parachute course he was assigned as Officer Commanding of 9 Platoon, C Company, 11th Parachute Battalion.

At Arnhem George was wounded in action and was taken prisoner of war.

He was sent to prisoner of war camp Oflag 9A/H at Spangenberg, Germany, where he got his POW number 2150.

George died December 11, 1970.
