4977911 Private Charles Ashforth

4977911 Private Charles Ashforth was born on 26th October 1919; the son of Albert Ashworth and Lucy née Cooke in Rotherham, Yorkshire.

In 1939 he was living in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, working as a cheese maker labourer.

We know very little about Charles's service in the 11th Parachute Battalion and the Battle of Arnhem and have no pictures of him. If you are a relative or have any information about Private Charles Ashforth, please contact us.

In early 1948 he married Brenda Hardwick in Repton, Derbyshire. On 1st December 1948, when he was awarded his campaign stars 1939-45 for Africa, france and Germany and his military medals for defence and war. At this time he was living at Church Lane, Linton, Burton-on_trent, Staffordshire.

Charles died on 15th May 1997 in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
