6204438 Private Cyril Herbert Carter was born on 7th January 1920, the son of Albert Henry Carter, and Annie Carter, of Bush Hill Park, Enfield, Middlesex. He was baptised on 14th July 1921 at at St Ann, Stamford Hill, Middlesex.

The 1921 census of England and Wales shows Cyril as living at 12 Westerfield Road, Tottenham with his parents and 3 elder siblings.

In September 1944 Cyril was deployed with the other men of the 11th Parachute Battalion to fight at the Battle of Arnhem during Operation Market Garden. On 25th September, during the fighting, Cyril was killed in action.

On 4th November 1949 Cyril's medals were posthumously awarded to his mother Annie who was living at 60 James Street, Bush Hill Park, Enfield.
