6467581 Private Cyril Thomas Baker was born 3rd June 1917 in Essex, the son of Harold Baker, an engineer with Associated Equipment Coy and Winifred Alice Baker (née Digby). On 18th June 1917 he was baptised at Walthamstow, St Michael and All Angels, Essex.

In 1921, Cyril was living with his parents and 2 younger siblings at 155 Warner Rd, Walthamstow, Essex. In 1939 Cyril was still single and living with his parents, now at 189 Sewardstone Rd Sth, Chingford, Essex. His employment was Cinema Operator, now labourer, heavy work.

In the Autumn of 1941, Cyril married Elsie Saunders in Epping, Essex.

During World War 2 in September 1944 he was serving with Headquarters Company of the 11th Parachute Battalion and fought at the Battle of Arnhem during Operation Market Garden .

He was discharged from the army on 9th December 1945, at which time he was serving with the Royal Fusiliers as a Lance Corporal.

Cyril died in the Autumn 1990 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
