Picture of Private Thomas George Armstrong 6978464 Private Thomas George Armstrong was born on 25th December 1914 in Limavady, Ireland. served with the 11th Parachute Battalion.

On 22nd February 1940 by Army Order 247 of 1939 he was awarded Palestine Clasps. At this time he was serving with The 2nd Battalion of The Royal Irish Fusilliers.

A few months before being deployed to Arnhem, Thomas returned home. On 10th March 1944 he married Helen Susan Stewart in Limavady, Northern Ireland.

After jumping into battle, during the fighting at Arnhem on 20th September 1944, he was taken prisoner of war and taken to Stalag 4B. He was allocated Number 075436.

Following his release from POW camp, he returned to England and was discharged from the army on 14th November 1945. He returned home to his bride and on 29th April 1949 he was living at Owenbeg, Dungiven, Co. Derry.

Thomas and Helen remained together until her death on 22nd March 1988.

Thomas remained in Dungiven and on 29th October 1997 Thomas died in Dungiven, Londonderry, Northen Ireland, just a few miles away from where he was born.
